Eyemouth - fishing that dates back to the 13th century and the harbour which still has a fishing fleet today. In the 18th century smuggling was rife amidst the clusters of houses, narrow wynds, caves and underground tunnels. Centred on the mansion of Gunsgreen House on the south side of the harbour. Today a a visitor attraction. Eyemouth is close to Haggerston Castle
Eyemouth Fort - it is hard to believe now, but the lumps and bumps on the promontory at Eyemouth are the remains of a monumental fort. Built by the English in the 1540s and taken over and extended by the French in the 1550s. Eyemouth Fort played a very important role in the relationships between Scotland, England and France during a turbulent period of European history.
Eyemouth Beach - a sandy beach, backed by a sea wall lies immediately west of the harbour wall. The beach is popular with locals as well as visitors. At low tide plenty of rockpools are exposed in which youngsters may enjoy hunting for crabs, starfish and other marine life. A marine reserve can be found off the coast, with a variety of sealife which attracts divers from around the world. Seals can often be spotted in the bay.
Eyemouth Museum - this museum depicts life in this fishing town over the centuries and contains a beautiful tapestry created by local women commemorating the Great East Coast Fishing Disaster of 1881 which claimed the lives of 189 local fishermen.
Gunsgreen House - Gunsgreen House is a visitor attraction in Eyemouth, Scottish Borders. The Smuggling museum and historical house is open to the public from 1st April-31st October
